Introduction of filter press cloth
A filter press cloth is a specially designed fabric used primarily for solid-liquid separation processes. The filter cloths are crucial to the filter press’s operation. The efficiency of the filter press largely hinges on the filter cloth’s ability to separate solids and liquids without getting clogged or damaged.
Filter cloths can be made from a variety of materials, including polyester, polypropylene, nylon, polyethylene, and others. The selection of material is primarily based on the specific use and the characteristics of the fluids and solids being separated. There are various kinds of filter cloth materials.
Filter press cloths of different materials
1. Polyester
Polyester fiber has many excellent properties: impact resistance, strength is four times that of nylon; good corrosion resistance, resistance to bleaching agents, oxidants, and hydrocarbons corrosion has strong acid and alkali resistance; in addition, it has good resilience and anti-ultraviolet ability.
The polyester filter cloth excels in filtration efficiency. It boasts durability, high strength, and a sleek surface, resulting in impressive air and water permeability, rapid filtration, high effectiveness, and effortless cleaning.
2. Polypropylene/PP filter press cloth
Polypropylene filter cloth is a filter cloth with good acid and alkali resistance. Polypropylene filter cloth has good chemical stability, strong strength, and wear resistance. Mainly used in plate and frame filter presses, belt filter presses, and other equipment in the precision chemical industry, dye chemical industry, sugar refining, pharmaceutical, alumina, and other industries, the filtration accuracy can reach below 1 micron.
3. Nylon filter cloth
Nylon filter cloth material properties: acid resistance and alkali resistance are the best among many fibers. It is primarily employed in industries such as rubber, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, and metallurgy.
4. Polyethylene
Relative to other filter cloths, the polyethylene filter cloth, especially the ultra-high molecular weight variant, is a newer addition. It exhibits superior wear resistance, resistance to acids and bases, better impact durability, and an extended lifespan. In addition, the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene filter cloth has outstanding surface properties, excellent toughness, and fatigue resistance, so the filter cake is easy to peel off, easy to regenerate, and has a long service life. It is suitable for industrial production.

Features of filter press cloth
The longevity of a filter cloth isn’t solely determined by its own wear and tear but significantly by the corrosive effects of the substances it interacts with. Hence, industrial filter cloths must meet stringent standards, including the following features:
1. Effective capture of solid particles with extended durability.
2. Rapid and consistent filtration speed with minimal blockages.
3. Filter residues that are easily removable, dimensionally stable, and devoid of expansion or contraction.
How to choose filter cloth
1. The filter cloth that can effectively intercept the sludge particles should be selected according to the properties and particle size of the sludge, mainly based on the pore size and water permeability (air permeability) of the filter cloth.
2. Filter press cloths of different materials should be selected according to the pH value of the sludge. Generally, in order to prolong the service life of the filter cloth, the polypropylene series filter cloth should be used in an environment with a pH value of 4~8, and the nylon series filter cloth should be used in an environment with a pH value of 5~ 8.5 environments used.
3. Choose filter cloths with different tensile strengths and elongations according to the filtration pressure.
4. When the filtration performance of the two filter cloths is similar, the cost of the filter cloth should be considered.
