Causes and Solutions for the Tilting of Filter Plates in Filter Presses

As a filtering device, chamber filter presses are widely used in various industries such as metallurgy, petrochemicals, medicine, and environmental protection. Especially with the rise of the environmental protection industry in recent years, various types of filter presses have been more widely used, but the levels of equipment manufacturers are different, and users have relatively little experience accumulation, resulting in many problems in the daily production of filter presses not being well solved, hindering the rapid development of the industry.

Filter plate tilting is the most common problem in the operation of filter presses. As the main component of the filter press, when its tilt reaches a certain degree, it will affect the normal unloading production. What’s more serious is that the filter plate will be damaged during the pressing process. Therefore, this tilting fault must be solved to ensure normal production. The following are the causes and solutions for the tilting of the filter plate.

Uneven Force on the Filter Plate

During the operation of the filter press, if the pressure distribution on both sides of the filter plate is uneven, the filter plate will tilt. This may be due to uneven installation of the filter cloth, or blockage of the feed port, resulting in more feed on one side.

Solution: Check whether the filter cloth is installed flat, ensure that the feed port is unobstructed, and clean the feed system regularly.

The Filter Plate Itself is Deformed

The filter plate may be deformed due to long-term high pressure or improper operation (such as overload operation), causing it to be unable to align properly.

Solution: Check the flatness of the filter plate and replace the deformed filter plate in time.

The Filter Plate is Not Cleaned Up

The residual filter cake or material under the filter plate is not cleaned up thoroughly, which causes the filter press to tilt when it is pressed. If this happens for a long time, it will cause the frame to deform or shift.

Solution: Check the area under the filter plate regularly to see if it is clean, and increase the frequency of manual or automatic cleaning after unloading. You can consider configuring an automatic cleaning device (such as filter plate vibration or spray system) to improve cleaning efficiency.

Wear or Deformation of the Filter Plate Sliding Track

If the filter plate sliding track is worn or deformed after long-term use, it will cause the filter plate to be blocked during sliding and thus tilt.

Solution: Check the straightness of the slide rail regularly and repair or replace it if necessary.

Inaccurate Installation Height of Filter Plate Handle

The installation height of the filter plate handle deviates from the normal error range, resulting in insufficient alignment during operation.

Solution: Check whether the installation height of the handle of all filter plates is consistent and adjust it to the standard height specified in the equipment manual. Use special tools to measure the installation error and ensure that the handle is within the allowable range.

Comprehensive Preventive Measures

Daily maintenance: Establish equipment operation logs, record the wear status of filter plates and key components, and perform timely maintenance.
Regular calibration: Regularly calibrate the equipment, especially key components such as slide rails, filter plate handles, and compressing systems.
Optimize operating specifications: Train operators, emphasize the importance of cleaning after unloading, and avoid equipment loss caused by operating errors.
